Concepts and reference for configuring, running and governing SmartApps. Public tier.
The public tier describes the concepts and the reference of SmartApps: hierarchies and levels, lanes and nodes, screens and components, the expression language, data handlers, variables, and approvals with clocks. Product documentation with the full component catalogue and release notes stays behind sign-in.
| Concept | Defined | Used by |
|---|---|---|
| Hierarchy | functions and levels, parents and children | collaborative apps |
| Lanes and nodes | roles, steps, decisions, arrows | process and data-driven apps |
| Screen | components in layouts, with properties and actions | every level and box |
| Data handler | table, query, pipeline, API or file, feed | screens, expressions, decisions |
| Expression | one formula language for criteria, calculations, actions | everywhere |
| Variable | screen, app, global, system scopes | screens, flows, rules |
| Approval flow | levels, alternates, delegates, paths, clocks, escalation | the workflow engine |
Component IDs use a type prefix and snake case: txt_serial, grd_claims, btn_approve. Data handlers use dh_. Variables are referenced by scope: scr., app., glob., sys.. Screens are numbered S01 onward within an app.
The syntax on these pages is illustrative and will be aligned with the shipped editor before publication.
